The Rev. Linda Carlson Scholer, Director of Music

Picture
The Rev. Linda Scholer has been an Episcopal priest for 16 years. She came from the Diocese of New Jersey to the Eastern Shore with her recently retired husband, Dr. Fred Scholer, in 2008. Linda’s first profession was as a sacred musician; serving a number of years as parish organist and choir director. While in New Jersey, she served as Lay Youth Leader and member of the Diocesan Youth Commission and the Music & Liturgy Commission, as well.

From 1980 to 2008, Linda served as Clinical Administrator in two Psychotherapy Centers as well as maintaining her own private practice: Carlson & Associates. In her practice she was known for her work with children, adults and those with debilitating and/or terminal illness. She was active in advocacy for special education students and was a Consultant to the Child Study Teams of West Windsor, NJ.

Linda’s ministry has included guest preaching, serving as Retreat Leader for women and for vestries, crafting adult formation programs, offering spiritual direction and championing the promotion of music and art in parish life.

Since 2011, Linda has been the Director of Music for the Churches of St. George’s Parish, which includes St. James, Accomac and St. George, Pungoteague. In that capacity, she founded the Schola Canotum choral group, which specializes in performing Choral Compline throughout Advent and Lent.

In 2016, she started the Artist’s Painting Guild at St. James. Linda devotes a good bit of her time to oil painting, creating icons and reading mysteries. She lives on Chincoteague Island with her husband, “Dr. Fred” and two very opinionated dachshunds.

Rev. Scholer served as Interim Priest for Parish Life, overseeing music, pastoral care and liturgical administration from October 2016 until January of 2017 while the rector was away on sabbatical.
